YouTube voice: Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog. I’m a little behind on my regular posting schedule but I’m getting back on track :) I wanted to do something different for this week’s blog post, inspired by old school YouTube favorites videos. Typically, a favorites video consists of a YouTuber listing off their favorite products (beauty, skincare, etc.) from the last month. I actually can’t remember the last time I watched a monthly favorites video or a haul video or an empties video…let’s just get into it!
Flickr
I don’t think anyone has regularly used Flickr in the last decade, but I’ve been having a fun time surfing on there. My approach has been to use the search function, mostly to find photo inspiration for various projects I’m working on. Where I end up after that is a mystery. Suddenly, I’m looking at a photo of a woman sitting inside of a drink fridge in someone’s garage from 2006. I’ve even started a little gallery titled Kitchen Anxiety, inspired by the work I’ve been doing around kitchens. I’m also a member of the Canned Drinks of The World group.
Entourage
Does liking Entourage make me a pick-me girl? Justice for pick-me girls. I’m really just trying to listen to men more. But seriously, it’s Sex and the City for boys. I’ve never had an interest in this show, never watched it when it was on, and somehow I’ve found myself deeply comforted and invested. There’s something about watching a “prestige” or hyped TV show way after its prime that is enjoyable for me. Maybe it’s because I can watch it without the rest of the Internet weighing in. I’ll start watching Succession in like 5 years.
My Printer (R.I.P.)
I broke my laser printer this week. It all started when I was using it to print transparency paper for my orb girls mirror. I must have knocked something out of place by forcing it to print so many transparencies. After that, it was never the same again, constantly jamming every other sheet of paper. The printer jams ended up being a blessing in disguise. I enjoyed the way it was making my images look, and decided to lean into it. It was exciting to see how each individual print would turn out, allowing the printer’s declining functionality to determine the quality. It truly felt like a collaborative process between my printer and I. Sadly, I pushed it too far and ended up dislodging and breaking a few bits and bobs inside, but I was able to get some really great stuff from it before it finally gave out. My new printer came in the mail today, no more jams for now <3
Beverage TikTok
I love to see the girlies with their drinks! Watertok? Hell yeah! Two girls, completely expressionless making a complicated drink at a KFC? Sign me up! A woman filling up a life-sized wine glass with cherry Slurpee at 7-11 and then strapping it in with a seatbelt into her car? DING DING DING! I just can’t get enough. There’s a very high possibility that I’ll be writing more about girls and their beverages in detail (and with more to say than just me likey) on this blog so stay tuned.
That’s my roundup for this month! A few things before I go:
I’m part of the exhibition, “Soft Narratives” with Maya Man and Chia Amisola. The show is hosted by Kunstsurfer, a browser-based art space from Zurich. Essentially, it’s a plugin that you download and it replaces advertisements with the work in the show. If you want to see my face randomly pop up while you’re reading the New York Times you should download it.
I’ll also be speaking on a panel about Tumblr at the New Museum hosted by Rhizome on May 18th. Christopher Clary and Cat Frazier will be joining me, and Larissa Pham will be moderating. More info and tickets here.
every time I hear about entourage I think about that chapter in tina fey's book where she jokes about how watching entourage during her pregnancy & early mom days contributed to her difficulty producing breast milk lmaoooo
